AN EXCEPTIONAL FRANKING ON A FUMIGATED COVER TO INDIA.

This cover has clipped upper and lower corners for fumigation during the 1895 cholera epidemic in Hawaii. Mail was quarantined at Honolulu from August 20, 1895 to October 23, 1895, and was fumigated before it could be put aboard a ship bound for another port. Apparently, this letter to Bombay would have also been fumigated at San Francisco and a third time at Bombay.
