A STUNNING AND RARE BLOCK.

Provenance: Dale-Lichtenstein, Pratt, Chan Chin Cheung (as block of eight)

The block of eight from which this was taken is illustrated in Pratt's "The Pence Issues of Newfoundland 1857-1866", p. 97. Pratt's block of eight came from the original block of 16 in the Dale-Lichtenstein collection, which has now been split into four blocks of four. Not only are these blocks of four the largest recorded multiples, but these are also the only multiples known to date aside from four other unused pairs.
