Camp Sorghum was established in early October 1864 and due to a lack of any real security, prisoners weremoved in late December to Camp Asylum in Columbia. The examiner was a guard at Camp Sorghum from November to December 1864. The letter entered the Union mails at Point Comfort with the Confederate postage uncancelled, thereby using the Union due handstamp to do so.
