1867 (Jan. 29) Santiago, Cuba to Bordeaux, France via New York, datelined folded letter carried privately to New York, entered the mails with 15¢ black (77) cancelled by NYFM grid cancellation, red "New York Paid 12 Feb 23" credit datestamp, orange French packet marking (2.23) ties 15¢, matching "PD" handstamp, Paris (3.6) and Bordeaux (3.8) backstamps, Very Fine.

This is the only recorded example of an orange cancellation on the 1866-67 15¢ issues, and is the basis for the Scott catalog listing.
