"Peytona", clear strike of black circled packet handstamp on 1846 folded letter datelined at New Orleans La. to Danville Ky., entered the mails with partial blue "Louisville Ky. May 14" c.d.s. and straightline "Steam" handstamp with manuscript rating, Very Fine. Milgram 1096.

The "Peytona" was named for a famous racehorse. There were a number of vessels of this name, the example here was the earliest, built in 1846 and ran New Orleans-Louisville until it was dismantled in 1852.
