1d dull orange with 1862 Davies 3d brown-lilac and 6d brown (SG 8, 40, 42), the 1d with large to huge margins, the other two touched or in at top and bottom, tied by "11" on 1863 (7 Sept.) envelope from Napier to Scarborough, Yorkshire (16.11) "via Marseilles", Very Fine mixed issue cover with late use of the Richardson 1d to make up the new via Marseilles rate of 10d per ½ ounce. THE EARLIEST RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THE 10 PENCE RATE VIA MARSEILLES FOR UP TO ¼ OUNCE WHICH CAME INTO EFFECT AS PER THE POSTAL NOTICE OF 1 SEPTEMBER 1863.

This unusual late usage of the Richardson 1d was caused by the increase of the postal rate from 9d (standard franking of 3d + 6d) to 10d.
