3d lilac, Provisional Imperforate (SG 117a), three large margins, just in at left, tied by "Auckland/1" duplex on 1868 (2 Nov.) front to Dunedin, stamp has small tear at top, otherwise Very Fine. Campbell Paterson A3d(X).
Estimate 400 - 600

Expertization: clear 2006 Odenweller Certificate.

This was originally believed to be a 3d brown-lilac rouletted 7 at Auckland (SG 52, C-P A3a(Z) and has a clear 1986 R.P.S.L. Certificate ("After Consultation") to that effect. Subsequent detailed examination by Robert Odenweller led him to the conclusion that this is, in fact, the First Provisional Imperforate lilac of 1866-67 with margins that bear some similarity to roulettes.
