1d carmine-vermilion (SG 110), horizontal pair, vivid color, tied by blank barred obliterator with "Headquarters" excised on 1866 (Dec.) folded letter from Opotiki to Auckland (12.12) via Tauranga (11.12), splitting at folds, Very Fine and unusual usage of this cancelling device which was converted for normal use by removal of the lettering in Tauranga at the end of the Maori Wars.
