Edward McPherson edited the Independent Whig in Lancaster Pa. 1851-54 and the Daily Times in Pittsburgh Pa 1855. He was a Representative from Pennsylvania Mar. 4, 1859 to Mar. 3, 1863 and Celrk of the House of Representatives from Dec. 8, 1863 to Dec. 5, 1875. Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing 1877-78. Editor of the Philadelphia Press 1877-80, and again Clerk of the House Dec. 1881 to Dec. 1883 and Dec. 1889 to Dec. 1891.
