French "Marion" Patent Envelope, envelope cancelled by "Chateauroux, 8 Mars 49" double-circle datestamp to Paris, France, manuscript rating, Paris (3.8) arrival backstamp on part of original letter within the arrival window, additional strike adjacent; envelope flaws, Fine and scarce precursor to the Leed's envelopes.

The envelope invented by Mr. Marion, a Paris Stationer, included two large holes - one on the front and one on the reverse so that the departure and arrival postmarks would be preserved on the enclosed letter. This invention was approved by the French Minister of Finance in March 1846.
