"Via Nicaragua / Ahead of the Mails.", framed handstamp in red on 1853 folded letter bearing 1851 12¢ black, diagonal bisect (17a), top left half, clear to large margins, tied by "New York 7 cts Sep 25" c.d.s., interesting content touches on whaling, Hawaii, and bidding on a ship which sold for $16,850; contents bleed through slightly and stamp with tiny tear at top right (not mentioned), still attractive, a Very Fine and rare usage.
