Andrew Johnson (1808-1875), 17th President of the U.S. (1865-1869), Vice President under Lincoln (1865); U.S. Representative from Tennessee (1843-1853); Governor of Tennessee (1853-57, 1862-65); U.S. Senator from Tennessee (1857-62, 1875), the only Southern Senator not to resign and join the Confederacy. Autograph Endorsement Signed as Senator from Tenn. on an envelope addressed to him in Washington, Johnson has written: "The early attention of the Dept [probably the War Dept.] to this will much oblige- And Johnson", the cover is postmarked "West Point, N.Y., Jun 22, 1860", Very Fine.
