Free Frank "A. Lincoln" as President on legal-size "From the President of the United States" imprint cover to Springfield Ill., imprint with "Priv. Sec." crossed out in Lincoln's hand, addressed in Mary Todd Lincoln's hand to Mrs. James Sprigg (first name changed to John) and with "Mrs. Lincoln" at bottom left also in her hand, bold "Washington D.C. May 17 1862" double-circle datestamp; slightly reduced at right, some overall soiling and wear, vertical file fold slightly affects signature, still Very Fine appearing.

This letter was sent from Mary Todd Lincoln to her neighbor Julia Sprigg in Springfield, Ill. There may be only one other example signed by Mrs. Lincoln and free franked by her husband Abraham Lincoln as president.
