Confederacy, Johnson's Island, Sandusky, O., pair of 1863 envelopes from a member of the 4th Va. Regt. Stonewall Brigade, a prisoner in Block 20, to Baltimore, Md., each bearing 3¢ rose (65) cancelled by blue grid, matching "Sandusky O." double-ring datestamp of Aug. 24 and Sep 5, with original enclosures asking for financial assistance, the first "I am again in the hands of the United States forces, a prisoner of war, having been captured in the great contest on the heights of Gettysburg", and the second "there are a large number of officers here— probably 800! I suppose that this is the best regulated and most comfortable prison in the United States." Also included are the replies (no envelopes) with Adams Express Company money orders. One cover and stamp faulty, the other has slight wear and toning. A Fine lot.
