Estimate 500 - 750

The original letter accompanies the envelope and the writer provides interesting insight into the current situation in the early months of the Confederacy: ". there is no union sentiment here only against Lincolns war policy and Miss has about 25,000 men in the field now armed and reunified. There is some 20,000 men above Memphis under arms to help repel the invader, Gen. B.F. Cheatham has 14 units at Union City near the Ky. line and if Lincoln's men come down they will ask Ky. no odds for her neutrality. They intend to march on her soil. Neutrality or what not 500 of Lincoln's cavalry came down. and drove on the picket guard of Cheatham."
