1847, 5¢ dark brown (1a), margins to cutting, rich color, tied by red grid, matching New-York Oct 8 c.d.s. on 1850 folded letter, datelined "U.S. Ship North Carolina" to Philadelphia, letter includes request for "half dozen bottles each of (Pale) Madeira," and "2 bottles of good Brandy," to be used as gifts, to be sent to the North Carolina, which was in port in New York, small cover tear at top and some internal separations. Fine usage.
