Campbell, Sir Colin (1792-1863), 1st Baron Clyde, Scottish soldier who fought against the U.S. in the War of 1812 and against the Russians in the Crimean War Autograph Letter Signed "C Campbell", 1½ pages, 4½ x 7, July 7, [1858 in another hand]. To Edgar Bowring, in full:

"My dear Bowring, Whereabout am I to look for the Tilree Rajah's dominions on the Map? I send Allgood with this so that you may point them out. What means this firing of artillery we heard this morning and from what direction does it come?"

Somewhat uneven inking with light signature, Fine.

Bowring was a British translator, author and civil servant, serving as librarian and registrar to the Board of Trade, secretary to the Royal Commissioner of Exhibition of 1851, and Member of Parliament for Exeter.
