Rawdon-Hastings, Francis (1754-1826), British military officer and politician who served the Crown during the Revolutionary War. Autograph Letter Signed four pages, 7 x 9, "Moira", Washington, September 20, 1811. To William Eden, 1st Baron Auckland regarding the Prince-Regent, just seven months after the Prince's father George III's mental incapacitation, in part: "… The persons to whom I referred never have been devoted to the Prince, & only avail themselves a temporary facility of intercourse to color matters as may best suit their private views…" Moderate toning, dusting and edge flaws with leaves beginning to separate; otherwise Fine.

Rawdon-Hastings was an intimate friend of the Prince-Regent, who arranged to have him appointed Governor-General of India in 1813, where his policies, including the purchase of the island of Singapore, proved very successful.
