Stapleton, Cotton (1773-1865), 1st Viscount Combermere, British field-marshal and colonel of the 1st Life Guards. Letter Signed, "Combermere", four pages, 4½ x 7¼ Munich, September 28, 1833. To his friend Mr. Moore regarding the loss of a great quantity of Indigo off the coast of France, in part:

"…I see by the newspapers that all the Indigo & the rest of the cargo…has been saved. There must have been about 1500 Chests on board. By this time you will have heard whether the newspapers are correct or not but I fear they are, for they are of some days later date than yours & they contradict the report of the loss of the Cargo - in decided terms. I shall be anxious to hear from you upon this subject."

Darkly penned and signed with minor mounting remnants on left blank margin, minor toning along fold on verso and a few instances of light foxing throughout, about Fine.
