Hawaii, 1866, 5¢ blue (32), horizontal strip of three, tied by very bold strikes of the 7-bar open grid on 1867 cover to Lyndonville, N.Y., magenta "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid Dec. 28" c.d.s. and San Francisco, 1868 docketing at top, "Hilo P.O. Hawaiian-Island Dec. 19" applied on back over all four flaps as usual, strip shows additional square grids and a not quite readable small c.d.s. on the center stamp, top flap refolded by sender to accommodate the contents, Very Fine, rare usage. The Ishikawa and Pietsch collections had a matching usage to Mabel Coan in Niles, Mich., mailed the same day by the sender of this cover, both prepaying the 5c Hawaiian + 10c U.S. for the Hawaiian Steam Service rate, to be put aboard the steamer Idaho, which left on Jan. 20. Instead, this was placed on the D.C. Murray, a non-contract ship.
