1847, 5¢ orange brown (1b), ample to large margins except clear at TL, clear sharp impression and handsome shade from the cleaned plate, tied by red grid and matching "Boston 5 cts. 21 Feb." c.d.s. on 1850 folded letter to Athol Depot, Mass., Very Fine, with Ashbrook note calling this "unquestionably a Pl. 2 stamp and thus an early use," an analysis later revised by 1847 students to describe the so-called "reworked" or cleaned plate, though Ashbrook was correct to identify this as an early example.
