1851, 1¢ blue, type Ib (5A), position 8-9R1E, an exceedingly rare horizontal pair of this scarce and difficult type, the left stamp being one of the two best examples of the Type, showing the lower left plume entirely complete, mostly large margins to close at bottom left, deep rich color characteristic of the later printings of Plate 1E, manuscript strokes cancel, Extremely Fine. Pairs of strictly type 1b stamps are extraordinarily rare as there are only four position combinations on the plate that can possibly yield a type 1b pair.
