1847, 5¢ dark brown (1a), margins to in at top, rich color, tied by red grid, matching New-York Oct 8 c.d.s. on 1850 folded letter, datelined "U.S. Ship North Carolina" to Philadelphia, letter includes request for half dozen bottles each of Pale Sherry & Madeira & two bottles of good Brandy, to be served to the writer's visitors aboard North Carolina, which was in port in New York; small cover tear at top and some internal separations; a Fine usage.
