Postage Due, 1879, 1¢ deep brown, Special Printing (J8), fresh and nicely centered wit rich warm color, original gum, paper hinge remnant, vertical crease ending in tears at top and bottom and blunted perfs at top, otherwise Fine.

It is generally accepted that nearly 9000 of the 1¢ postage dues that were sold as special printings, were actually taken from supplies of the regular first issue postage dues. It is likely that far fewer than 100 stamps from the actual special printing have survived.
