Fort Sheriden Collection, composed of 117 items from 1887 to 1952, wonderfully illustrating the history of the Fort with an emphasis on its involvment in the Spanish American War, the Philippine Insurrection, and the two World Wars, better items incl. 1887 cover with ""Headquarters Division of the Missouri"" printed corner crease, some Spanish American War patriotics, beautiful red and black hand drawn and colored cover from the Fort to Hartford Ct., two covers from WWI soldiers with "American Red Cross U.S.A. General Hospital No. 28 Ft. Sheridan, Illinois" printed corner crease (one with letter home explaining camp routine), semi-official cover and card with printed corner crease's calling the Fort a Civilian Military Training Camp and Recruit Reception Center respectively, post card from a WWII German POW held at the Fort, variety of interesting war time cancels incl. four 2c Green entires from Cuba to the Fort incl. one with two-line "United States Post Office, Military Station No. 1, Cuba" and other three with Cuba Military cancels, cover with "Dagupan & Manila R.P.O. 1901" addressed to the Fort, other interesting cancels incl. Doremus, International, and Pitney Bowes machines, variety of different rates also represented, also incl. a few ancillary items incl. a 1902 ordinance for a plank sidewalk approved by the Village of Fort Sheridan, four picture post cards with scene, ornate multicolored Western Union Valentine and Easter Greetings, and an article about the origins and postal history of the Fort, usual mixed condition associated with war time postal history but many useful items, on exhibit pages with write ups, generally Fine-Very Fine and nearly impossible to duplicate.
