Danish West Indies, 1811 (Nov. 7) St. Thomas to London, folded cover bearing sharp strike of "St. Thomas, Nov 7 1811" large flueron postmark, inside flap with "St. Thomas 6 Nov 1811" origin docketing, red London "S, 23 DE 23 1811" arrival backstamp and manuscript "4/-" due rating; restored, Very Fine appearing.

This is the first St. Thomas postmark, applied by the British packet agency beginning in 1809. The DWI post office did operate continuously from 1807-1917 for internal and external mails. Prior to 1877, the British French and Spanish also had foreign post offices operating.
