THIS IS THE ONLY RECORDED FIRST-DAY USE OF THE 10¢ ON 50¢ 1895 PROVISIONAL ISSUE.

The Danish Government generally ordered Danish West Indies stamps in small quantities. Because of the time involved in printing and shipping stamps from Copenhagen to DWI, supplies on hand in the islands often did not match needs. On May 18, 1895, the DWI government overprinted 732 sheets of the excess supply of 50¢ stamps to produce the needed 10¢ denomination for foreign postage.
