Canada, 1859, Queen Victoria, 12½¢ blue green (Unitrade 18a), two singles, tied by concentric rings cancels on 1867 cover to St. John's, Newfoundland, "Quebec L.C., SP 23 '67" origin c.d.s., St. John's (9.29) arrival backstamp; reduced slightly at right and missing side flap, Very Fine. Scott 18a.

BELIEVED TO BE THE ONLY RECORDED DOUBLE INTER-PROVINCIAL 12½¢ CUNARD PACKET RATE COVER TO NEWFOUNDLAND.

Carried on the Cunard Line's China leaving Boston on September 25 and arriving in Halifax on September 26. It was then carried by a local Cunard packet to St. John's.

The 12½¢ per ½ ounce rate came into effect on January 1, 1865. Previously it was 20¢ per ½ ounce.
