The 12d franking overpaid by 2d the 10d rate for the Cunard Line's Persia out of New York, May 25, but actually carried on the Allan Line's Nova Scotian (Quebec May 28 - Liverpool June 8) where the fee was 7½d.
Twelve covers exist from this correspondence to England. Apparently the Barrie Post Office had no 10d values available.
