THE EARLIEST RECORDED EXAMPLE OF THIS INTRICATE 1873 NYFM CANCEL DESIGN.
The year of 1873 saw the introduction of the first cancel designs in the N.Y. foreign mail department that we term "intricate". Only 5 different intricate designs were made during this landmark year and are considered some of the most desirable. Period of use for the ST-MP3 are December 18, 1873 to May 15, 1875. This cancel was also used in red on supplementary mail.
