This is a perplexing cover as red cancelling ink was reserved by the New York Foreign Mail Department for use on Supplementary Mail, but this cover does not bear a supplementary mail c.d.s. There are a number of covers that were sent by supplementary mail and do not bear the supplementary mail cachet. Carried on Inman Line "City of Baltimore" that arrived at Queenstown on January 12, 1872.
