1861, 30¢ orange (71), used with 24¢ lilac (78) tied together by 4-bar elliptical grid cancel on 1865 cover to Hong Kong, China, red "Boston Br. Pkt. Paid, 27 Jun" exchange office c.d.s. on reverse, red "48" credit, red London PAID transit c.d.s. (Jul 8) and "1d" handstamp, backstamped Hong Kong (Aug 19), docketed "Rec. Aug. 29/ 65, Nagasaki"; right edge neatly repaired, fresh, Very Fine appearance; especially desirable with the Japanese connection; includes the original 3-page family letter. The 54¢ franking was a 1¢ overpayment of the 53¢ British Mail rate to China via Marseilles.
