1861, 30¢ orange (71), Horizontal pair used (1865) with 10¢ green & 2¢ black (68, 73) tied by New York segmented cork cancels on 3¢ entire to Versailles, France, paying a five times rate for letters over 1 oz. but under 2 oz., red "New Paid York, Sep 26" exchange office c.d.s., red pencil "60" debit, red boxed "PD" with Calais entry c.d.s. and Paris and Versailles backstamps (all Oct 10); entire with Adams Express Company, New Orleans, La. corner card at upper left, partly covered by adhesives; bit reduced at left on back only with small repair at top edge, otherwise Very Fine and attractive. The cover probably originated in New Orleans, being carried by Adams Express to New York. The meaning of what appears to be a blue crayon "17" applied prior to the stamps, is unclear.
