12¢ black, plate I, imperf between (36c), horizontal pair. Centered to the top, intense color, cork cancels leave the imperforate portion of the pair almost completely unobstructed; nibbed perforation and two small closed tears, none of which affect the fully fine appearance.

A FRESH EXAMPLE OF THIS IMPORTANT 1857 ISSUE RARITY OF WHICH ONLY TWO OTHER PAIRS HAVE BEEN RECORDED, BOTH OF WHICH HAVE FAULTS.

This Ishikawa pair had been part of a package stolen a number of years ago from Federal Express. It has now been recovered and will make its first auction appearance in over twenty years.
