A FRESH SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE EXCEEDINGLY RARE DOUBLE TRANSFER TYPE C. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE LESS THAN 15 KNOWN.
Expertization: 1994 P.F. Certificate.
Provenance: Brown
According to the late Jerome Wagshal, in an article on the A,B and C double transfers in the August 1995 Chronicle, these double transfers were produce late in the life of the original plate, after the plate was cleaned and a bit reworked towards the end of 1850. The relatively short time the reworked plate was in use would account for the raity of this double transfer as compared to the A and B examples. In this article, Mr Wagshal provides a census of all the known double transfer type C, and listed 13, plus a half of a stamp in a strip.
