Very Fine and rare. Michel A I €22,000 ($23,760).
Scott $16,500

A SPECTACULAR, PROPERLY USED EXAMPLE OF THIS EXCEEDINGLY RARE PROVISIONAL.

Expertization: signed Bühler, Kosack and Gustave Freyse ("GF"), with 1987 Jakubek and 1986 Bühler certificates; in the latter Bühler notes that he knew Fischer personally.

In order to meet the demand for a 3pf stamp to pay the printed matter rate from
Vineta's post office to Germany, the ship's commander authorized his purser to surcharge and bisect 300 5pf stamps. The sudden increased demand was caused by the crew's desire to send home American newspapers reporting celebrations of the Kaiser's birthday.

Realized $9,000
