Lot 74

1852, 3¢ dull red, type I, with private "sawtooth" perforations (11), position 69L6, with clear perforations on left and right sides measuring about 10½; tied by Philadelphia cds on cover to Roadstown N.J. with lovely blue cameo-style merchant's corner card featuring a three-car train; fresh and clean, top flap nearly separated and partly missing, but otherwise a gorgeous cover.
Estimate 2,000 - 3,000

Expertization: with 2002 A.P.S. certificate noting "‘sawtooth’ separations of unknown origin", a letter from the late Wilson Hulme stating in his opinion it is genuine also accompanies.

This is quite possibly the same perforation as that noted by Wilson Hulme as used from Kensington Pa., a suburb of Philadelphia.

Realized $1,000
