3¢ dull red and shades (11, 11A), collection of 126 singles and 5 pairs in a range of shades with the majority having four margins; shade study includes one experimental orange brown (blue Weststockbridge c.d.s., horizontal. crease), brownish carmine, carmine, dull red, rose red, orange red, yellowish rose red, two examples nearing pink, rose brown, yellow brown, and an example between plum and deep yellow brown (note by Amonette), a fabulous study of the 1851 3¢ shades with many being ex-Amonette and/or plated by Chase.
